Kill Me, Heal Me Review

Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum gets paired up again just around a year after Secret which was a surprise success (It started off with a low single digit rating but grew up till around 20% and won Heirs!!!!!!). I am really surprise that Secret was successful both internationally and in Korea but well, the drama was certainly above expectations and the two leads certainly show excellent and impressive acting skills. After getting a few rejects in casting offer, the drama decides to cast both of them as the leads again and I think it's a smart move since they certainly do have good chemistry as seen in Secret, they have really solid acting and Secret had a solid and quite a big fan base in China while it was showing so since the drama production team teams up with China to produce Kill Me, Heal Me, casting these two as the leads will certainly catch a lot of attention in China too. (Not to mention the fact that Ji Sung is one of the more well loved actor in Korea)

This show sounds like a disaster, a guy with 7 personality and a first year rookie psychiatric resident falling in love but obviously, the show was still complicated, weird and nonsensical but still fun and interesting. (and slightly heart breaking in a good way) Just like Secret, the story sounds bad but ends up being surprisingly good. The drama manage to gain a lot of fans, I wasn't planning to watch the drama so soon but after hearing rave reviews and so much commotion from the drama, I was curious to see what the buzz is about, I have to admit the drama was fun and interesting but I never manage to fall in love with it the way I hope I will. (I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY LIKE IT- pardon me for adding in so many really, I was listening to Carly Rae Jepsen's I Really Like You and so that happened)

THE CHARACTERS

Ji Sung as Cha Do Hyun
Yes Ji Sung has 7 personalities here but I am only going to talk about three that appeared the most and I personally love the most. Cha Do Hyun is the actual person so he isn't a personality (pardon me if I get anything wrong, the show confuses me), he is nice, some how weak and his life is messed up by the other personalities inside his body, he always apologizes and begs for forgiveness over stuff that he don't even remember doing since it's by his other personalities. He stays away from people to prevent hurting them and he is afraid of others knowing that he has Dissociative Identity Disorder since they may use it to threaten him. Cha Do Hyun isn't leading man material so I think he is often overshadowed by more interesting personalities like Shin Se Gi so I don't exactly like him as the real personality but well, maybe bad boy isn't exactly a great idea either? (HYDE JEKYLL AND I)

Ji Sung as Shin Se Gi
Shin Se Gi appears the most out of all personalities and is definitely the most attractive one. Shin Se Gi is created when Cha Do Hyun tries to lock all his unhappy memories up so he is the "devil" that do all kinds of stuff that requires Cha Do Hyun to apologize and feel sorry for. Shin Se Gi is strong, fierce and almost everything that Cha Do Hyun isn't, he dislikes Cha Do Hyun for being a coward since he escapes from reality and hides from stuff he doesn't want to know. (ps eyeliner Ji Sung is cute)

Ji Sung as Ahn Yo Na
Ahn Yo Na is the scariest of all personality because she (YES SHE) is a 17 year old fan girl that is boy crazy. (I AGREE THAT SHE IS SCARY HAHAHAHA) Fan girls at that age are normally fierce and are super enthusiastic at protecting their oppas so...... (I AM ONE TOO) Ahn Yo Na is my favourite personality, I didn't exactly enjoy the show until Ahn Yo Na's appearance since she certainly spice up the drama and added in loads of laughter. Ahn Yo Na has a "mini" crush on Oh Ri Ohn (Park Seo Joon) which freaks and scares him out since she keeps on chasing him around and gives him kisses which was hilarious. Ahn Yo Na is mainly there for comic relief since she didn't play a significant role in the story but she was fun and certainly made me like the drama more.

Ji Sung is a great actor, he has many projects under his belt and is well recognized for his acting BUT he outdone himself again. HE WAS SO GOOD. Portraying 7 different characters at the same time isn't easy and the drama rushed through filming since it started off late due to casting problems which make it even more stressful and hard for Ji Sung but he still worked hard and made every single one of the 7 characters different and likable. His portrayer of Ahn Yo Na and smexy Shin Se Gi were the best, he also portrayed the emotional struggle and battle of Cha Do Hyun with himself well. Ji Sung better get loads of awards at the end of year ceremony or else my angry fan girl mode will be on.. I AM SERIOUS.

Hwang Jung Eum as Oh Ri Jin
Oh Ri Jin is a first year psychiatrist that ends up being Cha Do Hyun's private doctor. She is adopted by a really nice and warm family and has a twin brother (Oh Ri Ohn) whom she isn't related by blood to. Ri Jin has a strong and fierce personality, she doesn't let anyone make her unhappy and fights for what she wants, she easily finds out about Do Hyun's secret and protects it since she knows how much he is struggling emotionally.
I was impressed with Hwang Jung Eum after Secret, she was an idol turn actress but her acting is great and definitely worthy of being the leading lady. I didn't find her performance here as praise worthy as Secret's but she was still good and manages to portray Ri Jin's emotions well. *on a side note, she screamed a little too much in this drama that it became....unpleasant to my ears?*
I was quite upset when I see her with short hair for the drama since I think that her previous long hair that she had in Endless Love looks so good on her (She looked a little like Han Ji Min though)

Park Seo Joon as Oh Ri Ohn
Ri Ohn is Ri Jin's twin brother (NOT RELATED BY BLOOD), he actually likes his sister as a women but he never reveals his feelings out. He is a writer that uses a pen name to hide his identity, he seems childish and silly most of the time but he has a serious side too. I really love Oh Ri Ohn, in fact I loved him a little too much that it made me ship him and Ri Jin although I know it's impossible... (you know like a ship that breaks apart even before moving). My love for Ri Ohn made me quite upset since I know that there are zero chances of him getting the girl and it even made me dislike the main otp at one point..... which is also the main reason why I didn't fall in love with the show the way I hope to.
This is my first time seeing Park Seo Joon act (I am currently watching Witch Romance), I really like him but I have to admit I love his character way more than I like him, he acts well especially since he is a rookie. He is definitely one young actor to look forward to!

The teasers are really impressive, I was expecting some low quality short teasers since the drama was way behind schedule but the drama actually put in time and effort in making a impressive, interesting and cute teaser (THANK YOU).  In case you are wondering why I didn't write about the second female lead, Kim Yoo Ri's character, that is because I find her character pretty insignificant and useless to the story... it's a wasted character since she didn't do much in the drama and was not well laid out too.

    FROM DRAMAWIKI

I have to give the drama credit for surprising me unexpectedly with the few twist, I wasn't expecting it so the drama is no way predictable which is a good thing.I didn't love the show mainly because I didn't find Cha Do Hyun a great character (this does not include his personalities), I find him quite blend as the main and real personality and also that I didn't like the main couple since I was hopelessly shipping for the two twins to be together instead although I know clearly that it won't happen. (second lead syndrome)
I love the acting, in particularly Ji Sung's breath taking performance, he worked hard right till the end that he even lost his voice (http://koalasplayground.com/2015/03/09/ji-sung-continues-filming-final-two-episodes-of-kill-me-heal-me-despite-losing-his-voice/). This show has the formula for success since it's attractive, interesting, fun and has enough twist going on to keep viewers watching. The drama has a big production fee (except for the fire scene, I don't get why this drama even need a big budget..?) so it need high ratings to make it successful, it did get good ratings and manage to maintain first almost throughout it's run (Unkind Women which I thought will be a flop manage to win first place at the last few weeks), it created plenty of buzz online and have yet to reach the china market but has already captured the attention of drama fans in China which is a great thing.

    IN CONCLUSION
Sure enough, I didn't fall in love with the drama and go crazy over it like I did with Healer but it is still worth the watch. (Just like when people say they didn't love Healer and I was wondering why, HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LOVE IT but I guess that's what happening to me now.. I didn't manage to love something everyone else did)
Ahn Yo Na, I still love you.

    Personal Ratings: 9/10
How much it deserves: 9/10 (Honestly, the drama has loads of flaws but they are all minor enough to forget)
