My Spring Days review

Surrounding around the theme of cellular memory which was done in kdramas before many many years ago, the drama came out to be better than what I expected. With an unexpected pairing, weird mixture of cast, seen before story, the drama was expected to be a rating failure by many people before it even started but the drama exceeded expectations and remained first throughout it's run beating My Lovely Girl and Blade Man. (I was surprised though but the competition was quite weak with My Spring Days averaging only at around 8% throughout despite being first).

THE CHARACTERS

Choi Soo Young as Lee Bom Mi
Lee Bo Mi had a heart transplant few years before, she remains really thankful for the heart she has gotten and try to live her life to the fullest everyday. Her life is pretty perfect currently, with a handsome doctor boyfriend, a best friend that truly cares about her, parents that love and care about her thoroughly but she can't help but feel guilty for "stealing" someone's chance to live. Lee Bo Mi is really helpful, friendly, caring, direct, enthusiastic, brave which of course makes her likeable. The best thing I like about Bom Yi is that she does not bother lying at all, she is direct and will directly tell you how she feels. (So we won't see noble idiocy here haha)
I was really surprised when the role was offered to Soo Young because Son Ye Jin was the one that rejected this role before her and they are two really different actress whether by experience, age or looks but Soo Young definitely exceeded expectations and prove herself to be worthy of being the leading lady. Soo Young's last drama, tvn's Cyrano Dating Agency did really badly in ratings for a cable drama which was surprisingly because the drama was fun and pleasant to watch, I've liked Soo Young ever since her last drama so she was the reason why I bothered watching this. Soo Young proved herself to be a great actress in Dating Agency but she did even better here, her performance was definitely worthy of all the praise she has gotten whether from critics or viewers, she was natural and manage to truly portray Bom Yi the way she is written. (It's pretty obvious she worked hard to study this role and she is definitely one of the finest idol actress now)

Kam Woo Sung as Kang Dong Ha
Kang Dong Ha is a single father of 2,  his wife died in an accident few years back and she was the one that gave Bom Yi her heart. He is a caring man whom is kind of at loss having to need to take care of his two kids without a mother, despite being a CEO of a big company, he is down to earth and don't live a lavish lifestyle.
I have to admit, prior to this drama, I've never seen nor heard of Kam Woo Sung before. I didn't watch many old kdrams so that's probably why I've never heard of him as he took a hiatus for quite some time. I don't have anything fantastic to say about his acting nor character but of course his acting was good, I feel that his existence did help make Soo Young a better actress with his experience.

Lee Joon Hyuk as Kang Dong Hook
Kang Dong Hook is Bom Yi's doctor boyfriend, he lost his first love to his brother (the wife who died) so he gets really afraid when Bom Yi met his brother having to know about the heart. He is thoughtful, smart, caring and truly do love Bom Yi, not because of her heart but because of the fact that she's Bom Yi.
It's quite upsetting to know Lee Joon Hyuk came out of the military so quietly, he left for the army after City Hunter and his role was memorable (but Lee Min Ho basically took over the show), so I was hoping he gets the lead after his military released but well.... he chose this. I find it quite a waste of talent for him here though, his role was the typical second lead that didn't get the girl tsk.

Jang Shin Young as Bae Ji Won
Bae Ji Won is Kang Dong Hook's ex girlfriend, they remained as friends despite their past relationship but Ji Won still secretly love Dong Hook. I have nothing much to say about her character because it seems like her character is just there for the sake of existing.....
I've heard of Jang Shin Young but have never seen her anywhere, this role didn't require much acting so it isn't a role that showcase her acting but I do have to say she is really pretty haha.

    FROM DRAMAWIKI

The drama started off really well and I really enjoyed the beginning but as it continues and the romance starts developing.... my interest and liking to the show starts dropping drastically. The drama does the theme of warmth melodrama well, it adds in a little comedy element which was done well so it makes it much much easier to watch than other melodramas I've seen, the tone, characters, acting, pace was well done. But I was quite disturbed by the age difference.... i'm completely ok with noona romances or large age differences but the interactions between the two looks and feels more like father-daughter. In the drama they have a 18 year age difference but in real life they have around a 20 year age difference which is sufficient enough for them to be a father-daughter pairing, the romance in the drama is also really slow and old fashioned kind which feels more like a daily drama kind of romance, i'm okay with it honestly but they really do look and feel largely like father-daughter so the romance between them did disturbed me. I'm sure I'm not the only one that was kind of disturbed by this but I've seen people that say they look great together and love the pairing so maybe i'm overly sensitive and all *sorry*
I do really love the fact that the drama is so easy to watch, no evil characters, annoying parents and all, the tone is also done well having to make a melodrama less melo and more warmth.

    IN CONCLUSION
Overall, really well done if the lead couple pairing don't disturb you.

Personal Ratings: 8-8.5/10 (the front was really good)
    How much it deserves: 9/10
