Nae II's Cantabile/Tomorrow Cantabile/Cantabile Romance Review

(Note: This review is coming from someone that has NEVER seen the japan drama or manga or anything related to it's original so I am completely new to the story and characters)

I have a huge temptation to give japan dramas a try since I absolutely love Liar Game Remake and enjoyed this but the amount of Taiwan and Korean dramas I am trying to catch up on is enough to keep me busy haha.
Tomorrow Cantabile is definitely one of my favourite music related dramas, I have a soft spot for western classical music especially the piano because I really love the sound of it and I do have violin background. (I play a little piano and other instruments too but I disliked them all except for the piano), there isn't many Korean dramas set in the universities and I really don't get why, the only one that I have a memory of is Heartstrings which was a flop to me. Tomorrow Cantabile was enjoyable throughout, it was fun and easy to watch, I never got bored with it but never really fell 100% in love with it too, it gave me loads of Playful Kiss feels (it is by the same production company) which is a good thing since I love them both because they are both a casual fun treat for me.

THE CHARACTERS

Shim Eun Kyung as Sul Nae ll (Piano)
Sul Nae ll is a messy, clumsy, innocent, adorable and talented 21 year old university student majoring in Piano. Sul Nae ll is basically a 21 year old that dresses and acts like a child which I did like since her innocence is really cute and her character did manage to mature up when she needs to, Sul Nae ll did also manage to annoy at times because of her child like personality but I did like how the writer didn't make her a little perfect angel and she just slightly annoyed me which my love for her easily overshadowed those negative feelings. Sul Nae ll fell in love with Cha Yoo Jin pretty quickly and started to chase him around which freaked him out HAHA so cute, but it was her innocent determination that manage to make Cha Yoo Jin like her more and more, she sticks and stands up for Yoo Jin whenever he needs someone but when she needs to oppose him for her friends, she still did it which shows that she doesn't blindly supports him and I really like that.
Shim Eun Kyung was the first choice to play Nae ll but she rejected it for her movie commitment so Yoona got offered the role which caused major protest by fans of the show (I had no idea how or what Nae ll is supposed to be like so I had no comments since I quite like Yoona) but she rejected (and I am glad since I can't imagine her as Nae ll AT ALL since she has a goddess image but Nae ll is all messy and clingy) Shim Eun Kyung pushed back her movie filming and thus finally decided to take the role, it's been so long since we have actual school age actress/actors playing a student (Lee Min Ho as a high schooler? Yes he was cute and all but nobody actually thought that he was a high schooler.), she is in fact a year younger than her role which is rare and yes she is that young so this is also her first leading drama role, she is certainly worthy of a prime time drama lead role after her breath-taking performance in Miss Granny. I heard comments from fans of the original saying that she didn't exactly portray Nae ll as what she is supposed to be, as a first timer, I like her portray of Nae ll and I think that nobody else can play the role as well as her (although Jung So Min may work well too), I do really love the Nae ll portrayed by her so I have zero complains about her acting since she did a almost flawless job in my opinion.

Joo Won as Cha Yoo Jin (Piano/Conducting)
Cha Yoo Jin is Nae ll's senior majoring in Piano too, he is famous for his good looks and talent, he is basically perfect since he is a walking talent, he cooks well, he is mega extremely cute and good looking since he is Joo Won, he keeps his home sparkling clean, he is rich which is well almost the opposite of Nae ll heh. Cha Yoo Jin does have some attitude issues which made his professor unhappy with him and he does have a weird temper at times but nobody is perfect right? Cha Yoo Jin was annoyed by Nae ll most of the time but when Nae ll doesn't annoy him, he feels empty and weird haha, he is also Nae ll's neighbour so when he sees how messy and dirty Nae ll's house is, he was so irritated and disturbed to the point that he just dashed into her house to clean up for her.
Joo Won is hands down one of my favourite actors around since I watched almost all his dramas and will definitely watch anything with him inside. I heard even more complains about Joo Won's acting as Yoo Jin and his conducting style, I was in a orchestra for around 10 years and i don't really find anything wrong with his conducting style and again as a first timer, I have nothing against his acting, I really really love Joo Won and never found any problem with his acting so.... Joo Won and Shim Eun Kyung are absolutely adorable together so I do like the two casting.

Go Kyung Pyo as Yoo ll Rak (Violin)
Yoo ll Rak is a not that fantastic Violin player but has a great and cheerful personality which makes him absolutely cute. He really likes Cha Yoo Jin so labels him as his bestfriend which does sometimes annoy him haha since he is a little like the male version of Nae ll, he is although much more mature than Nae ll and he can be serious when he needs to. Yoo ll Rak has the cutest father in the entire world HAHA, his father treats him like a gem and feels hurt even when he has to walk down the stairs to take a cup of water, he does dote on him a little too much but thank god ll Rak isn't those kids that grow up as a horrible person since their parents over dote them.
I've seen Go Kyung Pyo in a similar role as ll Rak from Flower Boy Next Door so I felt really comfortable with his acting here, he was good and made ll Rak really lovable and memorable.

*additional picture of Lee Hyun Woo and Lee Yoon Hoo*

Park Bo Gum as Lee Yoon Hoo (Cello)
Lee Yoon Hoo is a Julliard cello student so he is pretty famous because as we all know, getting into Julliard is a huge achievement since you have to be super talented. Yoon Hoo starts to harbour a little innocent crush on Nae ll since he has a to do list and he added in "dating a weird girl" in it after meeting Nae ll, but sadly, the closer he gets to Nae ll, the more she pushes him away since she made it clear she only love her orabang Yoo Jin (orabang means oppa).
PARK BO GUM IS SO AMAZINGLY CUTE, he looks like Lee Hyun Woo but when he wear his round spectacles which is similar to the one Jo In Sung wore in Its's alright It's Love, he looks like the young version of Jo In Sung!? HOW CAN SOMEONE LOOK LIKE BOTH JO IN SUNG AND LEE HYUN WOO.... if the show managed to get popular overseas, I am sure he will become a huge hit because he is really one of the best looking actors I've ever seen in my entire life.

    FROM DRAMAWIKI

I really love this drama because of the easy and fun tone the drama had throughout, it manage to make me laugh and feel really happy which I truly appreciate, although the drama didn't do well in ratings (Joo Won never had a KBS rating failure until this but well, at least I enjoyed them all) and it wasn't popular overseas too which is a pity since it gave so much of the Playful Kiss feel so it will definitely engage international audience the way Playful Kiss did. (PK did horrible in ratings but was a huge hit online and overseas) The pace of the story was good and directing was well done since a musical drama isn't easy to direct because you have to have some basic music knowledge and some actors are newbies to music so it is really a chore to make everything look right. I do LOVE the pieces the orchestras in the drama plays, the piano duet by Shim Eun Kyung and Joo Won in episode one was so good I replayed it quite a few times because it was so fun and beautiful and showcased chemistry with zero skin ship!!!!!!! I appreciate the fact that all the characters are likable and nobody really got onto my nerves and that each episode manage to put a huge smile on my face. If I have to name out a flaw or a disappointment it will be that (SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT SO ONLY READ IF YOU DON'T MIND SLIGHT SPOILERS) there's no kiss scene... I WAS WAITING FOR IT FOR THE WHOLE ONE HOUR DURING EPISODE 16 BUT IT NEVER HAPPENED AND I WAS SO DISSAPOINTED SINCE THEY ARE SO CUTE TOGETHER AND I GUESS EVERYONE WAS EXPECTING IT TOO.

    IN CONCLUSION
I liked and enjoyed everything about this drama except the flaw I stated above, this is definitely the right show for someone looking for a light hearted, fun drama or fans of Playful Kiss
