Mr Baek/Mr Back review

I don't like calling it Mr Back so I should stick with calling the drama Mr Baek. The drama started off well with ratings, getting the highest start for a prime time drama for year 2014 and considering the fact that the time slot's last drama, My Spring Days remained first in ratings throughout but it didn't manage to get anything near Mr Baek's ep one ratings, the attention Mr Baek got is pretty impressive. I can totally understand the first episode's rating, the first episode wasn't good but wasn't bad either, Mr Baek have been said to be a remake of the movie Miss Granny (with a twist since it's a grandpa that became young again) and Miss Granny did so well critically and commercially so many people probably tune in to watch how that fantastic movie will be like on the small screen. (I didn't actually wanted to watch this but after watching Miss Granny last December, I was excited for this show because Miss Granny was simply that good and entertaining). The ratings for the drama started dropping as it goes on due to competition from Pinocchio and soon, it dropped to second place, I understand the drop in ratings since Pinocchio is more entertaining and meaningful (in MY OPINION, at least) and that Mr Baek isn't living up to it's expectations, it isn't anything near to the funny and tear jerker Miss Granny.

*I like the poster mainly because Jang Nara looks gorgeous in the dress HAHA*

THE CHARACTERS

Shin Ha Kyoon as Choi Go Bong/Choi Shin Hyung
Choi Go Bong is a 70 year old CEO, he doesn't trust anyone and is pretty unlikable. After an accident, he magically turned back into his 30 something year old self and in order to prevent suspicion, he randomly call himself Choi Shin Hyung. Choi Go Bong was really unlikable in the beginning and even Choi Shin Hyung was a little annoying with his personality but as the story goes on and he starts falling in love with Eun Ha Soo(Jang Nara), he started being much cuter and almost like a little boy begging for attention. (in a good way)
I've never ever seen Shin Ha Kyoon anywhere before but I've heard of him before because he is famous. He did well as the title character and of course as a well known actor in Korea, his acting is good but I didn't manage to like him throughout the drama though... The drama had some casting issues, having to first offer to Ji Chang Wook whom rejected and Yeon Woo Jin (I guess it was just a rumour?) and with those issues going on, many are wondering if the script was bad so the role was passed down but well, I guess it wasn't bad but not good either.

Jang Nara as Eun Ha Soo
Eun Ha Soo is a earnest, hardworking and kind women looking for a job and manage to clinch a job at the hotel which Choi Go Bong is the CEO. Eun Ha Soo is actually the typical female lead we used to see in drama land (nowadays the characters are all not typical so yeah having a typical kdrama female lead is actually starting to be rare)
Jang Nara did fated to love you in the same time slot same channel before My Spring Days so she only manage to take a short break and return to MBC again with Mr Baek. Jang Nara did manage to do well in both dramas and the ratings for both the drama was pretty well (anything around 8-9% is considered good nowadays), I have to admit that I didn't exactly like her performance in FTLY but I find her much better here probably because I can't help comparing her to Joe Cheng while watching FTLY.(the original FTLY Taiwan actress) Jang Nara doesn't look anything like a 30+ year old women, gosh, her skin is literally perfect and she has a small baby face that makes her look like she's in her early 20s. I was quite impress with Jang Nara here, especially in the last few episodes where her character was quite emotional, she did portray the emotions really well.

Lee Joon as Choi Dae Han
Choi Dae Han and Lee Joon was probably the best and my favourite thing from this show. Choi Dae Han is Choi Go Bong son, he kind of hate his father due to how he treated his mum and him in the past so he takes revenge on him by making him angry in different ways, from sky diving to gambling LOL. He actually did those actions to get his father's attention too since he never gave him any attention when he was young and only focus on making money. Choi Dae Han feels like a lost puppy hoping to one day finally get his father's love and attention like a normal father so he doesn't mean any harm towards his father, in fact he does really love him. Choi Dae Han falls in love with Eun Ha Soo too so the father-son end up fighting over the same women.... *awkward*
Lee Joon was impressive in GapDong but I stopped that drama after a few episodes cause I just simply didn't like it so this is my first actual Lee Joon drama, I've never found him really good looking but after Mr Baek, I do find him cute and charming haha. He does act well, he is now a full time actor after leaving MBLAQ and he did state that his passion was always acting and he dreams was to be an actor not a idol so yes, he dream finally came through. More of actor Lee Joon please.

Park Ye Jin as Hong Ji Yoon
Hong Ji Yoon is a sincere and loyal assistant to CEO Choi Go Bong and she secretly harbours a crush on Dae Han. Hong Ji Yoon is a great character, she is literally a perfect person so it was upsetting to see her heartbroken having to know Dae Han is in love with Eun Ha Soo.
I hated Park Ye Jin in the past (yes hate), I just can't make myself like her ever since her annoying character in My Princess so I was disappointed to hear that she was casted here but well, I can finally say I love her and her character here. I don't usually dislike people just because of their character (she's the only one) but I just can't help it.... *sorry* I do like her here and find her soooo gorgeous and much prettier than how she looked like in My Princess.

    FROM DRAMAWIKI

I honestly like the last few episodes of the drama much more than the rest, it actually took me 10 episodes before I really feel comfortable towards the story and all the characters. The drama isn't up to my expectations so it's quite disappointing but I did enjoy it as a casual watch, it was still funny, cheeky and entertaining. It wasn't hard to watch and it's pace is pretty fast so watching this is a swift and smooth journey and I don't regret watching Mr Baek since I did sincerely like the drama towards the end.

    IN CONCLUSION
Not up to expectations but still worth the watch since it is fun.

    Personal Ratings: 8-8.5/10
    How much it deserves: 8-8.5/10
