Marriage Not Dating review

tvn wins big this year with great dramas like liar game, three musketeers and this, these dramas put the big 3 (SBS,MBC,KBS) in shame having a cable channel to actually do much better although with less attention and a less stellar or well known cast. Marriage not dating was a pleasant surprise for me, I didn't expect much but I did read pretty good reviews about it but at the same time read just moderate reviews but I totally loved it, it manage to surpass it's potential (a story about a guy that doesn't want to get married and a girl that wants to have been told many times in different ways) and manage to become a enjoyable and smooth 16 hours for me.

THE CHARACTERS

Han Groo as Joo Jang Mi
Joo Jang mi is the kinda girl that is impulsive, reckless, nothing near shy, friendly, fierce, brave but I have to say despite not liking her in the beginning, I came into liking her more and more as the episodes goes by. She gets dumped by her boyfriend when she wanted to propose to him because the guy wasn't serious about her, she meets Gong Ki Tae (Yun Woo Jin) who is her boyfriend's friend that helped him get away with her proposal.
The main reason why Joo Jang Mi is a successful character is because of her sincerity and also the fact that Han Groo is the one portraying her. Han Groo is an actress that's really pleasant to watch, her acting style isn't too over exaggerating which is something i'm afraid of since portraying Jang Mi can easily be too exaggerating because of her personality. Han Groo manage to make her likeable and also make herself as an actress lovable, she's one of those young actress that will definitely take over dramaland in the future if nothing goes wrong. *off topic but I went to google about han groo and she's literally a walking talent, she speaks many languages well (I heard her speak Chinese really well on MAMA awards) and she won some education award in America and she even dances well (and she used to be a singer too!!), life is totally unfair*

Yun Woo Jin as Gong Ki Tae
Gong Ki Tae is a 33 year old plastic surgeon that doesn't want to get married but his family are forcing him constantly so he uses Jang Mi and made her his fake fiancé. Initially he was annoyed by Jang Mi but as they start interacting, he started liking her and became concern about her and started feeling empty when she isn't around to annoy him. *^^*
I've never seen Yun Woo Jin anywhere else before MND so i'm completely new to him, and I love him and Gong Ki Tae. I like the way he portrays Ki Tae and his feelings towards Jang Mi, although there's nothing much fantastic to say but i'm looking forward to his next acting gig already. (maybe down the road, Yun Woo Jin and Han Groo may act together again hehe)

Jung Jin Woon as Han Yeo Reum
Han Yeo Reum is the absolute cutie that didn't get the girl ): He works in the café own by Joo Mi's ex as an waiter but he actually has talent for cooking and wants to be a chef, he is really popular with girls but ends up liking Jang Mi. He dated Jang Mi for a while but Jang Mi realizes that her feelings for Ki Tae is sincere and of course, he doesn't get the girl..... ): I like how the show ends up making Jang Mi and Yeo Reum as good friends and business partner and also his bromance with Ki Tae hehe it's so cute.
If I didn't search on him, I wouldn't expect him to be a idol though (I guess he doesn't have the idol vibe or feel haha), he is pretty cute and his acting is natural so i'll definitely love to see him act in another drama again!!

Han Sun Hwa as Kang Se Ah
She's Ki Tae's ex girlfriend who's also a plastic surgeon. She still loves Ki Tae but they broke up because he doesn't want to get married but they remain as friends though. Her character can easily become bitchy but she isn't exactly bitchy.... hmm I think it's kinda hard for me to describe her though :/
Han Sun Hwa's figure is so perfect T_T <-- out of topic I know haha. This isn't my first time seeing Han Sun Hwa act, she impressed me with her short but still kinda memorable role in God Gift 14 days but she seems to be slightly overshadowed here by the performance from Han Groo but well she did certainly catch directors/producers/writers attention because she has gotten a main lead drama role in a MBC drama so congrats to her!!

  • Synopsis

A romantic comedy about a man who doesn't want to get married and a woman who earnestly wants to get married. Gong Ki Tae is a successful plastic surgeon who keeps getting pressured by his family to get married but all he wants is to live alone in peace. He then comes up with a plan to introduce Joo Jang Mi to his family, believing that they will never be able to accept her as their daughter-in-law.

    FROM DRAMAWIKI

The chemistry between the 2 leads (Han Groo and Yun Woo Jin) and the 6 leads of the main cast are great which helps the show become even more enjoyable. I like how the show doesn't require me to use my brain to think haha, it's straight forward with a easy storyline but at the same time the story do has it flaws, it seems like it's going round and round which makes it quite pointless and stupid but well, it's the kind of stupidity and silliness I enjoy. I love how the writer makes the 6 main cast look like a high school clique as the story goes on, there was this beach scene where all 6 are present and having fun, that scene was so fun to watch (the cast looks like they are enjoying themselves too ^^). I doubt anyone will dislike this show but it's the kinda show that you either love to bits or you just enjoy it and I absolutely love it to bits!!  Hopefully the writer can come out with another drama that manage to give viewers this kinda feeling again. (the writer is new though so i'm happy to say that she has earn herself a new fan over here)
Directing style was breezy, obviously not those movie kind you see from It's ok that's love and You Who Came From The Star but still enjoyable and one of the main reason why this show is so successful. (the director manage to make every single scene so fun and enjoyable to watch)

    IN CONCLUSION
A romantic comedy that does both romantic and the comedy element well. (there are many dramas labeled as romantic comedy but ends up being not romantic and not funny lol) This is one of those feel good drama that fits the summer mood really well, fast paced but manages to keep the story well in place. Not a perfect drama but still I enjoyed every single moment of it and I think this is one of the best 16 hours I've spend in my life. (ya I pretty much achieved nothing in my life and spend most of my time watching tv/drama/variety shows or studying *sniff*)

    Personal Ratings: 10/10
    How much it deserves: 9/10

    1. Keeping in mind that there wouldn't be much explicit romance in this drama, I spent some nice hours watching this show, Escorte
