A new leaf review

A memory lost lawyer, a rookie lawyer with a solid law story is full with potential but sad to say it ended up being a "what did I just spend 16 hours on" kind of drama.

THE CHARACTERS

Kim Myung Min as Kim Suk Joo
Kim Myung Min as a memory lost lawyer? Yes please. Kim Suk Joo started off being a lawyer that works for money and not for the sake of those that really need help, he was proud and mean and of course, one of the top lawyers but he happens to lose his memory and ended up being a complete different person (that kept his lawyer skills *where's the logic though*). I disliked the initial Kim Suk Joo but he lost his memory and started acting all cute and lovable so it's hard to not like the blur looking Kim Suk Joo that lost his memory haha. The drama shows Kim Suk Joo trying to find his warmth and kind side which he probably lost when he became the cold hearted lawyer he was, he started to care for people, try to help those in distress, stand up for what is right which he would have never done in the past.
Kim Myung Min still reminds me of Anthony (King Of Dramas), that was the first time I saw him but despite his ugly coat and awkward eye liner throughout the show I really liked how that drama make his character grow up in personality throughout the show so it made me naturally like Kim Myung Min more as an actor. I wouldn't say he is a waste as a talent here but his existence actually helped make the show more bearable, Kim Myung Min has this natural charm about him that makes him feel really easy to watch and I like how he portrays Kim Suk Joo.

Park Min Young as Lee Ji Yoon
Lee Ji Yoon is a rookie lawyer whose only a third rate university graduate so she's quite lucky to be able to get in one of the top law firm in the country. She's the kind of person that stands up for those in need, she disliked Kim Suk Joo initially but started to grow into admire and liking him as a senior when he loses his memory.
Park Min Young disappeared from dramaland for around 2 years after Dr Jin and now she's finally back!!! She was offered roles for both this and You are all surrounded but she chose this, I won't say it's a bad choice and I can understand her choice (she worked with many young actors like Yoochun/Lee Min Ho/JoongKi) so maybe she wants to work with an established and senior actor this time. But I can't help to wonder if You are all surrounded would be better with her around..... maybe she will have great chemistry with Lee Seung Gi!! (because the casting bugged me a lot, I love the actors and actress individually but not as a cast because they don't have the kind of chemistry or team chemistry I see in other dramas) Park Min Young has never been a bad actress in my opinion, I liked her in whatever role she has been in, she isn't a fantastic actress but still likable and good enough to keep up with the competition in drama land.

This time i'm just going to talk about this 2 character because the other 3 are quite poorly used urgh. Chae Jung Ahn was a waste of talent, her character was quite useless (it could be well done!!) and she barely appears.... Jin Yi Han was cute and that's all, Kim Sang Joong still remains as City Hunter daddy to me.

This drama portrays how the lawyer tries to live with new perspectives while struggling to discover who he really is, and in the process, changing people around him

    FROM DRAMAWIKI

As much as i'm hoping there won't be romance involve before watching the drama due to the age difference but I can't help but to wish that the leads can get together because they are so cute together. They actually have decent chemistry and the drama did hint at developing their relationship but never went further which is a pity because the setup of the story, characters and their chemistry will be super great if they do set up a love line between them sigh. The law stories were realistic, solid and well written but sad to say forgettable and boring at times. The ending was just..... when it ended I was totally surprised because I didn't even realize it ended. I enjoyed the first few episodes but as the story goes on it became to go downhill and started to become more boring.

    IN CONCLUSION
Has potential to become great but didn't live up to expectations. There's a few cute characters and at the same time also many waste of talent. Still worth watching for it's law story as it's smartly and tightly written but don't expect anything much

    Personal Ratings: 8/10
    How much it deserves: 8.5/10

    Comments

    1. This review shows how good dramas are wasted on a certain class of viewer that is only able to accept the biggest, most glaring cliches. No, Kim Suk Joo does not become "a completely different person" after he loses his memory, or try to find his "warm and kind side". It is NOT the kind of show where the bad guy becomes all nice and fuzzy. KIm Suk Joo is the same cold-blooded arrogant surly bastard after losing his memory -- e.g. he still sneers at Ji Yoon's preoccupation with feelings, and doesn't care what anyone says or thinks about him (as his best friend points out more than once). The main change in him is that he appears to have lost all the baggage and experience and training that had sharpened his cynicism and clouded his conscience, e.g. the long shadow of his father and how it had impacted his mother; the strong influence of his boss. And why on earth should there be a "love line" between Suk Joo and Ji Yoon? Isn't it clear that Suk Joo ends up with the Chae Jung Ahn character at the end? Those two are a much better match in terms of age and personality and background.
