Feast Of The Gods Review

I have to admit that I'm pretty reluctant to do this review because I hate recalling this drama since it was really bad but I'm still going to do it since I do have some pleasant memories from this drama. [LEE SANG WOO]

This drama revolves around a switch of identity between the two female leads, the drama started off badly, I didn't like the first few episodes at all but as it goes on it got better but never manage to capture my full attention. The story was written messily, I didn't like how the story handle the conflicts and emotions of the characters and I definitely don't like how the writer make most of the characters irritating or to blend. I started watching this thinking that Joo Sang Wook is the male lead but clearly, the writer wanted to create some confusion and made Lee Sang Woo the male lead (I'm not complaining since Lee Sang Woo is hands down the best and my favourite thing about this show).

THE CHARACTERS

Sung Yoo Ri as Go Joon Young/In Joo
In Joo fell into the sea years ago from a cruise ship when she was a child and lost her memories, she then live as Joon Young on an island after being adopted by a man that doesn't exactly treat her well but still truly cares about her. Joon Young is a enthusiastic, nice, hardworking and happy lady that has a talent for cooking, she meets Jae Ha (Joo Sang Wook) on the island she lives on when he was there for a business trip(?) and fell in love with him quickly which leads on to her helping him with what he was finding and she gets entangled in a event by Arirang (apparently it's supposed to be a government owned Korean restaurant which is really famous), Arirang's person in charge is her birth mother whom don't remember her at all so the story starts with her being involved with Arirang.
I've never seen Sung Yoo Ri but clearly know about her since she have worked with many famous actors from Hyun Bin to Ji Sung. She is usually effortlessly gorgeous in photos with her long hair so I have no idea why the show made her cut her beautiful hair and make her look weird with that hideous hair style, but she did manage to look like a country bumpkin in the beginning. I disliked Joon Young because she annoyed me with her over enthusiasm but do like her at certain point since she wasn't all weak and have the ability to stand up for herself and fight off the people whom hurt her. I do like Sung Yoo Ri after this despite not exactly being a fan of her character.

Lee Sang Woo as Kim Do Yoon/Haemil
Kim Do Yoon is the son of Baek Seol Hee who is the antagonist that constantly tortures In Joo, Seol Hee owns a large restaurant chain and is a women with lots of power and can control almost anything but can't get her son back. Do Yoon passionately hates his mother after she cause her twin brother's death due to her putting her competition before him and his brother who is dying, he comes back to Korea many many years later and started working at her mother's rival restaurant, Arirang as a rookie chef to anger his mother. Do Yoon is a pretty quiet person with his own personality, he is determined and smart which makes him my favourite character from this drama, he follows Joon Young around and helps her quietly after falling in love with her, he wasn't hesitant about his feelings and just waited for her patiently.
Lee Sang Woo was so cute and handsome looking as Do Yoon that made me love him and Do Yoon much much more, Do Yoon was a great character and also the reason why I bother finishing this drama. I was shipping Lee Sang Woo and Sung Yoo Ri throughout the drama since they look really great together and they have loads of chemistry (!!!!), there was this scene where they just stood together and I can literally feel their chemistry just like that. (If only they were given a better drama.....) Lee Sang Woo and Sung Yoo Ri's relationship is the only good thing about the drama despite the writer barely developing on it and just rush through it (YES I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THAT AT ALL)

Seo Hyun Jin as Ha In Joo/Song Yeon Woo
Song Yeon Woo was on the same cruise ship in which In Joo(Sung Yoo Ri) went missing with her dying mother, her mother left her alone after she suicide so helpless Yeon Woo met In Joo's mother whom wasn't in the right mind after her daughter disappeared so she thought that Yeon Woo was In Joo, In Joo's father thought that this situation was a chance so she took Yeon Woo in and let her live with the name and identity of In Joo for the rest of her life since he knows that the chances of the real In Joo surviving is really slim. Yeon Woo worked really hard so that she can become the real In Joo and was living a happy life since she has a great relationship with her parents, everyone likes her since she has a nice personality and she has a great boyfriend, Jae Ha (Joo Sang Wook). Yeon Woo's goal is to take over her mother and become the successor of Arirang but things became complicated after Joon Young appeared and she feels threatened by her. Yeon Woo then decides to do anything she can to kick Joon Young out of Arirang and her life which obviously makes her the antagonist. Despite most of the characters here being poorly written, I think Yeon Woo was pretty well written, I understood her desire of wanting to become the real In Joo and thus understood her actions, she used to live happily but things started shaking after Joon Young appears so her hatred towards her started growing, sure nothing can justify her actions and she is still annoying but she is definitely one of the better written antagonist in this kind of drama.
I like Seo Hyun Jin after watching her in Mr Oh Is Coming and Three Musketeers, she has such a gentle voice and image so I can't imagine her in a evil role but she did it and did it pretty well. Seo Hyun Jin is one of the prettiest actress around since she has the face of a classic Korean beauty, hopefully she gets better roles in the future because she does have the potential to do better. (Well, she has Lets Eat season 2 coming up)

Joo Sang Wook as Choi Jae Ha
Jae Ha is Mr Nice Guy, his grandmother was the previous head of Arirang and he works as a civil servant. (No, he isn't a spy) Jae Ha has a nice personality and is in a happy relationship with In Joo but ends up slowly drifting away from her and ends up liking Joon Young (The drama's explanation is that because they were childhood friends but they don't remember each other since Joon Young isn't In Joo currently but Jae Ha still have a natural mental connection with her...... isn't the explanation way too weak?). Jae Ha was cute but never impressive, he became a boring and a useless character as the story goes on, the writer wanted to make him play Romeo but it was pretty stupid since his Juliet obviously have lost all her feelings for him. Jae Ha is a weak character and definitely not male lead material, he became a character that existed for the sake of existing towards the end.
Can we take a moment and talk about how Joo Sang Wook shouldn't have sign up for this.. his character was weak and the story made him blend. Joo Sang Wook played similar characters in dramas like Birth Of A Beauty and Cunning Single Lady but obviously his character is much much stronger in those and cuter since the story revolves around him. I guess Joo Sang Wook wasn't expecting this when he sign up for it. (I will highly recommend his fans not to watch this)

    FROM DRAMAWIKI

Reminder: I will probably not watch any other dramas from this writer since it's like watching a disaster happen in my face (Reasons why I decided to not watch Hotel King)
The story was alright in the middle but the disaster happens in the beginning and the ending, I love Lee Sang Woo and his character and his chemistry with Sung Yoo Ri but hate the fact that the writer didn't bother developing more on their relationship. I couldn't care less about Arirang in which the characters are fighting for and obviously don't actually bother about who gets it in the end so the only thing that kept me watching was for the love line between Sung Yoo Ri and Lee Sang Woo since that's the only thing worth the torture of watching this drama. I guess the drama could be better if it's only 20 episodes instead of 32 since the drama did create nonsense to fill in the episodes (WHY CAN'T THEY JUST SPEND MORE TIME ON THE LOVE LINE BETWEEN THE TWO CHARACTERS WHY)

    IN CONCLUSION
I was expecting loads of food porn since I do like Korean food but I don't find the food in the drama tempting..... apart for Lee Sang Woo and the OST (I love the trot music mix in the soundtrack) , I can't think of anything else that makes the drama worth 32 hours. > THIS IS A WARNING TO NOT WATCH THIS.

Personal Ratings: 7-7.5/10 (Out of the 7.5, 4 goes to Lee Sang Woo, 3 goes to Lee Sang Woo and Sung Yoo Ri's relationship and 0.5 goes to the story)
    How much it deserves:7/10
